Tuition Grant application process

2. Find sureties

A surety must take responsibility for ensuring you fulfil your Tuition Grant (TG) obligations.

If you fail to serve your bond, you and your sureties will be jointly liable to pay liquidated damages.

You must nominate 2 sureties to sign the Tuition Grant agreement. Without 2 sureties, you must pay the non-subsidised fees for your studies.

Who can be a surety?

Your surety:

  • Must be above 21 and below 65 years old.
  • Can be of any nationality.
  • Can be living in Singapore or overseas.
  • Can be your immediate or extended family members.

At the point of your application, they must not be:

  • An undischarged bankrupt.
  • A TG applicant.
  • A TG recipient with outstanding bond obligation.
  • A surety of a TG recipient who has yet to fulfil their bond obligation.

You cannot be your own surety. We encourage you to nominate your family members to be your sureties.

If you have signed the Tuition Grant Agreement with 2 sureties for your polytechnic TG bond, the same sureties can also sign the Tuition Grant Agreement for your university TG bond if they meet the above criteria.

Sureties' details

You must submit your sureties' personal information when submitting your TG application:

  • Full name as on identification document (ID)
  • NRIC or FIN (whichever applicable)
  • Date of birth
  • Foreign ID number
  • Citizenship
  • Contact number
  • Home country address
  • Email address (provide a different email address for each surety)

Documents required

In your TG application, you must upload your sureties’ Foreign Identity Card or Identification Document that contains their name and home country residential address.

If your surety’s Foreign Identity Card or ID does not contain their home country address, upload a recent government-issued document (such as a household register) displaying their name and home country address.

ID and documents that are not in English must be translated and notarised.
