Programme-specific scholarships for Pre-University

Scholarships may be offered to Singapore Pre-University students pursuing specific programmes. For example, students in the Art, Music and Language Elective Programmes. Learn if your child is eligible.

These scholarships are offered to students pursuing a particular programme of study. Students must be enrolled in schools or language centres which offer these programmes to qualify for the scholarships.

Art Elective Scholarship (AES)

This scholarship is awarded in Pre-University 1 to students admitted to the Art Elective Programme (AEP).

It is awarded for 2 years. The award covers an allowance of $1,000 and school fees based on Singapore Citizen's rates less any subsidies, subject to an annual cap of $2,400, as long as the student meets the renewal criteria and remains enrolled in the AEP. Only Singapore Citizens are eligible.

Who is eligible

Singapore Citizens who:

  • Are enrolled in the Art Elective Programme
  • Have done consistently well in school and obtained outstanding results in their GCE O-Level examinations or equivalent based on the school's internal assessment
  • Obtain at least an A2 in Higher Art or Art in their GCE O-Level examinations or equivalent based on the school's internal assessment OR possess a good art portfolio with documentation of active involvement in art-related activities within or outside of school
  • Have good co-curricular activities record

You will be invited for the scholarship selection interview based on your results, your school's recommendation and your portfolio submission.

Interview details

Shortlisted students will receive details of the interview through email in April or May, and the interview will be conducted in April or May.

Prior to the interview, all students must submit a personal portfolio which should include documentation of active involvement in art-related activities within or outside of school and can include:

  • Mini visual tasks and assignments that show a range of different media or artforms
  • Works to show your artmaking processes. For example, research and gathering of information and data, ideation, brainstorm, development of ideas, exploration and experimentation of ideas and materials
  • Pages from your sketchbooks and journals

Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP) Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded in Pre-University to students admitted to the Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP).

It is awarded for 2 years. The award covers an allowance of $1,000 and school fees based on Singapore Citizen's rates less any subsidies, subject to an annual cap of $2,400, as long as the student meets the renewal criteria and remains enrolled in the BSP. Only Singapore Citizens are eligible.

Who is eligible

Singapore Citizens who:

  • Are enrolled in the Bicultural Studies Programme.
  • Have done consistently well in school and obtained outstanding results in their GCE O-Level examinations or equivalent based on the school's internal assessment.
  • Obtained at least a B3 in Higher Chinese Language or A2 in Chinese Language or equivalent.
  • Have good co-curricular activities record.
  • Have good conduct record.
Additional requirements Scholarship recipients must:
  • Offer H2 China Studies (Chinese).
  • Participate in the Overseas Immersion Programme and other compulsory BSP activities.

This scholarship is awarded to Pre-University students who have strong foundations in mathematics and science, with an inclination towards applied, interdisciplinary and hands-on learning.

It is awarded for 2 years. The award covers an annual allowance of $1,000 and school fees based on Singapore Citizen's rates less any subsidies, subject to an annual cap of $2,400, as long as the student meets the renewal criteria and remains enrolled in ETPS. Only Singapore Citizens are eligible.

Who is eligible

Singapore Citizens who:

  • Have done consistently well in school and obtained outstanding results in mathematics and science subjects (e.g. at least A2 for a mathematics and a science subject) at the GCE O-level examinations or equivalent based on the school's internal assessment. 
  • Have good co-curricular activities record, particularly in STEM areas.
  • Have good conduct record.

For scholarship recipients taking the GCE A-Level examinations
You must offer H2 Mathematics and at least one of the following subjects:

  • H2 Physics
  • H2 Computing
  • H2 Further Mathematics

For scholarship recipients taking International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)
You must offer Mathematics and either Physics or Computing at higher level for IB.

For scholarship recipients in NUS High School of Mathematics and Science
You must offer Mathematics and either Physics or Computing as a major subject.

Programme expectation
All scholarship recipients are expected to fulfil the following:

  • Participate in the 1-week ETPS Flagship STEM workshop to be conducted between late December of first year and mid-January of second year of scholarship
  • Participate in a work attachment/ internship programme in June or December of second year of scholarship

Scholarship recipients will also be strongly encouraged to participate in a hands-on engineering-related project or learning activity of student’s choice within the duration of the scholarship. Some examples include participation in the Engineering Innovation Challenge (EIC), Singapore Science and Engineering Fair (SSEF) or equivalent.

Scholars must not be concurrent recipients of any other MOE scholarships except the Edusave Scholarships for Independent Schools (ESIS).

This scholarship is awarded in Pre-University 1 to students admitted to the Humanities Scholarship and Programme (HSP).

It is awarded for 2 years. The award covers an allowance of $1,000 and school fees based on Singapore Citizen's rates less any subsidies, subject to an annual cap of $2,400, as long as the student meets the renewal criteria and remains enrolled in the HSP. Only Singapore Citizens are eligible.

Who is eligible

Singapore Citizens who:

  • Are enrolled in the Humanities Scholarship and Programme (HSP).
  • Have done consistently well in school and obtained outstanding results in their GCE O-Level examinations or equivalent based on the school's internal assessment.
  • Obtained at least a B3 in English Language or equivalent.
  • Have good co-curricular activities record.
  • Have good conduct record.

  • Have done consistently well in school and obtained outstanding results in their GCE O-Level examinations or equivalent based on the school's internal assessment.
  • Obtained at least an A2 in Chinese, B3 in Higher Chinese, or B4 in Higher Chinese with B3 in Chinese Literature or equivalent.

  • A video-recorded performance on an instrument of your choice comprising 1 work or movement of about 3 to 4 minutes AND a composition portfolio of 1 to 2 works adding to about 1.5 to 3 minutes with accompanying audio recording(s) of the work(s)

The performance must be recorded within the last academic year (i.e. Year 4/Sec 4).

National Elective Tamil Language Programme Scholarship (NETPS)

This scholarship is awarded in Pre-University 1 to students admitted to the National Elective Tamil Language Programme (NETP).

It is awarded for 2 years. The award covers an allowance of $1,000 and school fees based on Singapore Citizen's rates less any subsidies, subject to an annual cap of $2,400, as long as the student meets the renewal criteria and remains enrolled in the NETP. Only Singapore Citizens are eligible.

  • Are enrolled in the Regional Studies Programme
  • Have done consistently well in school and obtained outstanding results in their GCE O-Level examinations or equivalent based on the school's internal assessment.
  • Obtained at least a B3 in Malay (Special Programme) or Bahasa Indonesia.
  • Have good co-curricular activities record.
  • Have good conduct record.
Additional requirements

Scholarship recipients must:

  • Offer Malay (Special Programme) or Bahasa Indonesia as third language at secondary level, and offer H2 History (Southeast Asia module) or IB History with 30-hour Advanced Conversational Malay Language or Bahasa Indonesia at Pre-University level.
  • Participate in the Overseas Immersion Programme and other compulsory RSP activities.
  • Not be concurrent recipients of any other MOE scholarships except the Edusave Scholarships for Independent Schools (ESIS).

Application for 2025 cycle will start in mid-January 2025.

Selection for interview

If you are in the Integrated Programme, your school will nominate you for the scholarship selection interview.

If you are not in the Integrated Programme, you will be invited for the scholarship selection interview based on your GCE O-Level examination results and school's recommendation.

Interview details Shortlisted students will receive details of the interview through email in April, and the interview will be conducted in April or May.
Announcement of results Successful candidates will be notified in June.
