Programme-specific scholarships for secondary schools

Scholarships may be offered to Singapore secondary school students pursuing specific programmes. For example, students in the Regional Studies and Bicultural Studies Programmes. Learn if your child is eligible.

These scholarships are offered to students pursuing a particular programme of study. Students must attend schools which offer these particular programmes to qualify for the scholarships.

Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP) Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded in Secondary 3 to students admitted to a Bicultural Studies Programme.

It is awarded for 4 years. The award covers an allowance of $1,000 and school fees based on Singapore Citizen's rates less any subsidies, subject to annual cap of $2,400, as long as the student meets the renewal criteria and remains enrolled in the Bicultural Studies Programme. Only Singapore Citizens are eligible.

Who is eligible

Singapore Citizens who:

  • Are enrolled in a Bicultural Studies Programme.
  • Are in the top 10% of PSLE scorers in their cohort.
  • Have earned an ‘A*’ grade in Chinese Language or a Merit in Higher Chinese Language.
  • Have earned an ‘A’ grade in English Language.
  • Have a good conduct record.

Additional requirements

Scholarship recipients must:

  • Take Higher Chinese and Chinese electives as required by their school.
  • Participate in BSP Symposium, camps and overseas immersion programmes organised by MOE and their school.
  • Take H2 China Studies (Chinese) at Pre-University Level.
  • Not be concurrent recipients of any other MOE scholarships except the Edusave Scholarships for Independent Schools (ESIS).

Regional Studies Programme (RSP) Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded in Secondary 1 and Secondary 3 to students admitted to a Regional Studies Programme.

It is awarded for 4 to 6 years, depending on the year it is awarded. The award covers an allowance of $1,000 and school fees based on Singapore Citizen's rates less any subsidies, subject to annual cap of $2,400, as long as the student meets the renewal criteria and remains enrolled in the Regional Studies Programme. Only Singapore Citizens are eligible.

Who is eligible

Singapore Citizens admitted to a Regional Studies Programme who have good co-curricular activity and conduct record.

Additional requirements

Scholarship recipients must take Malay (Special Programme) or Bahasa Indonesia as a Third Language at Secondary level, and take H2 History (Southeast Asia module) or IB History with 30-hour Advanced Conversational Malay Language or Bahasa Indonesia at Pre-University level.

They must also participate in:

  • Combined Cultural Camp (Secondary 1).
  • Seminar on contemporary Southeast Asia (Secondary 3).
  • Overseas immersion activities throughout secondary school.

They must not be concurrent recipients of any other MOE scholarships except the Edusave Scholarships for Independent Schools (ESIS).

Chinese Language Elective Scholarship (CLES)

This scholarship is awarded in Secondary 3 to students admitted to the Chinese Language Elective Programme (CLEP-Sec).

It is awarded for 4 years. The award covers an allowance of $1,000 and school fees based on Singapore Citizen's rates less any subsidies, subject to annual cap of $2,400, as long as the student meets the renewal criteria and remains enrolled in the Chinese Language Elective Programme. Only Singapore citizens are eligible.

Who is eligible

Singapore citizens who:

  • Are enrolled in the Chinese Language Elective Programme.
  • Have earned at least an ‘A2’ grade in Chinese Language or ‘B3’ grade in Higher Chinese Language, or equivalent in their Secondary 2 examinations.
  • Have a good conduct record.

Additional requirements

Scholarship recipients must take:

  • School-based Literature in Chinese, if they are in the Integrated Programme.
  • Literature in Chinese as a full or elective subject at O-Level, if they are not in the Integrated Programme.

They must also participate in:

  • CLEP-Sec Camp (during the June holidays in Secondary 3)
  • Overseas immersion programme (at the end of Secondary 3)
  • School-based activities and programmes
They must enrol into CLEP and offer H2 Chinese Language and Literature to be considered for scholarship renewal at Pre-University level.

They must not be concurrent recipients of any other MOE scholarships except the Edusave Scholarships for Independent Schools (ESIS).

Malay Language Elective Scholarship (MLES)

This scholarship is awarded in Secondary 3 to students admitted to the Malay Language Elective Programme (MLEP-Sec).

It is awarded for 4 years. The award covers an allowance of $1,000 and school fees based on Singapore Citizen's rates less any subsidies, subject to annual cap of $2,400, as long as the student meets the renewal criteria and remains enrolled in the Malay Language Elective Programme. Only Singapore citizens are eligible.

  • Have earned at least an ‘A2’ grade in Tamil Language or ‘B3’ grade in Higher Tamil, or equivalent in their Secondary 2 examinations.
