Types of employment
You must start serving your 3-year bond immediately after graduation and submit an update on your employment status within 3 months. Therefore, we recommend that you start your job search early.
Acceptable employment
Only full-time employment after graduation will be considered towards serving your Tuition Grant (TG) bond obligation.
You may work for different companies for a cumulative period of 3 years.
These are the types of full-time employment that count towards serving your bond:
Local employment
You can fulfil your bond obligation as:
- A full-time employee of a Singapore entity.
- A self-employed person where the company is registered with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA).
Overseas employment
To have overseas employment counted towards your bond obligation, you must obtain prior MOE approval and be an employee in one of the following:
- An overseas subsidiary or joint venture that is more than 50% owned by a Singapore entity.
- An overseas representative office of a Singapore entity while remaining on the Singapore entity’s payroll.
- An overseas office where the operating cash flow is funded by the Singapore entity.
Alternatively, you may be seconded from a Singapore entity while continuing to remain on its payroll.
What is a Singapore entity?
- A company incorporated in Singapore
- A partnership or sole proprietorship set up in Singapore
- A Singapore government agency
- An education institution registered in Singapore
- A non-profit organisation registered in Singapore
- A foreign company with substantial connection to Singapore under Singapore law
You can check if a company is incorporated in Singapore on Bizfile, an ACRA portal for business information.
Job search strategies
- Expand the modes of your job search by seeking advice from the career centre in your institution and registering with recruitment agencies.
- Expand your job search efforts to areas outside your immediate field of study.
- Ask your network to help you look out for opportunities and recommend you for job vacancies at their companies.
- If you are an international student, obtain an S Pass or Employment Pass eligibility letter from your institution and attach it to your job application.
