Polytechnics

1. Admission matters and courses offered

To be eligible for admission into a polytechnic diploma course, you must meet these 2 criteria:

  1. Your ELR2B2 net aggregate score must not exceed 26. The exception is the Diploma in Nursing, whereby your ELR2B2-C net aggregate score must not exceed 28.
  2. Meet the minimum entry requirements (MER) of the course that you are applying for. Find out the MER of specific courses on CourseFinder or refer to the consolidated MER of all courses.

Aggregate computation for polytechnic diploma courses

ELR2B2 net aggregate score
= English Language (EL) + 2 Relevant Subjects (R1, R2) + 2 Best Subjects (B1, B2)
minus CCA bonus points

Each polytechnic diploma course uses one of these aggregate types to assess course eligibility. Explore the courses under each aggregate type, their net aggregate scores and fields of study:

Learn which O-Level subjects are used to compute each aggregate type .

What cannot be used for aggregate computation

You cannot use:

  • The grades of both Higher Mother Tongue and Mother Tongue of the same language in the aggregate score computation. For example, in ELR2B2-C aggregate type, if Higher Chinese is used as best subject B1, Chinese cannot be used as a best subject B2.
  • “Merit” and “Pass” grades for the Mother Tongue ‘B’ Syllabus for aggregate computation.

  • Higher Mother Tongue Language: Higher Chinese, Higher Malay and Higher Tamil
  • Mother Tongue Language: Chinese, Malay and Tamil
  • Mother Tongue ‘B’ Syllabus: Chinese ‘B’, Malay ‘B’ and Tamil ‘B’

Bonus points for polytechnic admission

The CCA bonus points are subtracted from your gross aggregate scores to obtain the respective net aggregate scores to assess course eligibility and for posting.

If you are eligible to apply for polytechnic courses through JAE and you are:

  • a private candidate, or
  • a current or former student at JC, MI or ITE

you will still be eligible for the CCA bonus points if you have obtained the above CCA grade.

  • Use CourseFinder to explore and shortlist courses based on your net aggregate score.
  • The 2025 JAE net aggregate scores in CourseFinder are only used as a reference and do not guarantee admission.
  • The actual course net aggregate scores depend on the O-Level results and course choices of applicants in the 2026 JAE, and these can differ from previous years.
  • The net aggregate score ranges for 2026 JAE courses will be updated in CourseFinder on JAE posting results release day.
