Close to 200 Students Recognised for Diverse Achievements at Annual Special Awards Ceremony

This year, 206 Special Awards were given out to 195 students from 96 educational institutions1 to recognise their diverse achievements in both academic and non-academic areas. Minister of State for Education, Ms Gan Siow Huang, presented the awards at the Special Awards Presentation Ceremony on 29 August 2023.
2 Six students clinched multiple awards:
- Raffles Institution student Ms Hilary Chee Xin Yi was recognised for her bilingual proficiency and excellence in Mathematics and Science;
- Former Hwa Chong Institution student Ms Koh Heer Lin received accolades for bilingual and bicultural proficiency;
- Singapore Polytechnic student Mr Koh Rong Xin Raxton was recognised for his outstanding performance and well-rounded achievements;
- Former Nanyang Polytechnic student Mr Alex Chien Jun Hao received awards for achievements in Mathematics and Science, as well as outstanding all-round achievements; and
- NUS undergraduates Ms Clara Yang Ting and Ms Tan Ying Teng were both recognised for achievements in Mathematics and Science and dedication towards upgrading and lifelong learning.
3 The breakdown of recipients for specific awards are as follows:
- Prime Minister's Book Prize (35 recipients)
- Lee Kuan Yew Award for All-Round Excellence (24 recipients)
- Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science (48 recipients)
- Lee Kuan Yew Award for Outstanding Normal Course Students (15 recipients)
- Lee Kuan Yew Exemplary Student Award (28 recipients)
- Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading (25 recipients)
- Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding All-Round Achievement (4 recipients)
- Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding Bicultural Students (4 recipients)
- Lee Hsien Loong Award for Special Achievement (2 recipients)
- Lee Hsien Loong Interactive Digital Media Smart Nation Award (16 recipients)
- Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Book Prize (5 recipients2)
