Recognising Our Students' Diverse Achievements

This year, 210 Special Awards – the highest number in a single year thus far – will be given out to recognise students' diverse achievements in both academic and non-academic spheres, including their contributions to the community.

2. A total of 2011 students from 81 educational institutions2 will receive the following awards:

  • Prime Minister's Book Prize (39 recipients)
  • Lee Kuan Yew Award for All-Round Excellence (21 recipients)
  • Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science (49 recipients)
  • Lee Kuan Yew Award for Outstanding Normal Course Students (10 recipients)
  • Lee Kuan Yew Exemplary Student Award (27 recipients)
  • Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading (25 recipients)
  • Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding All-Round Achievement (4 recipients)
  • Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding Bicultural Students (4 recipients)
  • Lee Hsien Loong Award for Special Achievement (2 recipients)
  • Lee Hsien Loong Interactive Digital Media Smart Nation Award (23 recipients)
  • Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Book Prize (6 recipients3)

4. In line with precautionary measures due to the COVID-19 situation, there will be no physical award ceremony this year. Nonetheless, schools and the Institutes of Higher Learning are encouraged to recognise the achievements of their students by leveraging internal smaller-group or virtual platforms. For example, school leaders could arrange to present the certificates to their students directly, and even publicise the students' achievements on the school's website.

  1. There are three students who are duo-award recipients. They are Tan Jiecong, who received the Prime Minister’s Book Prize and Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science; Shawn Cheng Wei Xuan, who received the Prime Minister’s Book Prize and Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding Bicultural Students; and Elsa Foo Dui San (Fu Rui Shan), who received the Lee Kuan Yew Award for Outstanding Normal Course Students and Lee Kuan Yew Award for All-Round Excellence.

  2. These institutions include 18 SPED schools, 17 primary schools, 33 secondary schools, four junior colleges, five polytechnics, three ITE colleges, and the National University of Singapore.

  3. All six recipients are also recipients of the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading.
