Name and Constituency of Member of Parliament

Mr Cai Yinzhou, Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC

Question

To ask the Minister for Education (a) how many children with special educational needs attending mainstream schools have been unable to secure or retain places in school-based Student Care Centres (SCCs); and (b) what referral pathways and school coordination exist where an SCC cannot meet a child's special educational needs.

Response

  1. MOE does not track the number of students with special educational needs who have been unable to secure or retain places in school-based Student Care Centres (SCCs).
  2. In cases where SCC staff find it challenging to meet the students’ special educational needs, schools work with the SCC operators and parents to support the students. School personnel also guide SCC staff by sharing strategies to support these students.
