2. Scholarship/Award Details

All scholars and award holders receive sponsorship for their undergraduate tuition fees and other approved programmes, a maintenance allowance, and the opportunity to undergo MOE developmental programmes to prepare them as future educators.

All applicants will be considered for the full range of MOE Teaching Scholarships and Award.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) Scholarship is the premier government scholarship awarded based on merit. The PSC Scholarships offer varied career pathways in the Public Service that will provide for a broad range of interests.

MOE Education Merit Scholarship (EMS) /MOE Teaching Scholarship (TS)

The MOE EMS and MOE TS are prestigious scholarships awarded to talented individuals, aimed at nurturing the next generation of educational leaders. The MOE EMS or MOE TS is tenable for undergraduate studies either at reputable overseas universities or at a local autonomous university, including the NTU-NIE Bachelor of Arts/Science (BABSc) programme.


MOE Teaching Award (TA)

The MOE TA is a prestigious award offered to individuals who possess a passion for teaching, tenable for undergraduate studies either at a local autonomous university or in the NTU-NIE Bachelor of Arts/Science (BABSc) programme.

From AY2025/2026 onwards, MOE will sponsor more individuals with interest and aptitude for teaching in MOE schools to join the BABSc Double Major programme. Some of these individuals will be offered placement in the NTU-NIE Teaching Scholars Programme (TSP) from the start. Other TA holders who do well in the BABSc programme may be offered placement in the TSP after Semester 1 of their second year of study, subject to them meeting the prevailing qualifying criteria for the TSP.

Eligibility
  • Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident who is willing to take up Singapore Citizenship
  • A well-rounded individual with good academic and co-curricular activities (CCA) records
  • GCE A-Level, International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, Polytechnic Diploma, NUS High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrates strong leadership qualities and a passion for education
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Country of Study Reputable overseas or local universities*

*MOE Teaching Scholars or Award holders can enrol in the 4-year double major undergraduate NTU-NIE Bachelor of Arts/Science (BABSc) programme which will equip them with an academic degree in arts or science-based subjects, as well as a teaching qualification. Those in the BABSc will not be required to complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programme. 		Reputable local universities, including the NTU-NIE BABSc programme
Course of Study

To ensure sufficient breadth and depth in your subject content knowledge as required for teaching, your course of study should be of relevance to a teaching subject, such as these subject areas:

*Note: Applicants who wish to pursue other similar courses of study may still apply for the Teaching Scholarship/Award. We will advise you subsequently on the subject(s) that you can be assigned to teach.

Bond
  • 4 years for local studies
  • 5 years for studies in non-English speaking countries

If you are enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programme at NIE, you will also have to serve a 3-year bond upon completion. This is concurrent with your scholarship bond.
The discharge of your bond period starts on the day you assume official duty after completing your studies and NIE training (if applicable).

NTU-NIE Bachelor of Arts/Science (BABSc) Programme

BABSc

As a recipient of MOE EMS, MOE TS or MOE TA, you will have the opportunity to pursue your undergraduate studies in the NTU-NIE Bachelor of Arts/Science (BABSc) programme. The BABSc is a 4-year double major programme which offers a forward-looking, multidisciplinary curriculum which combines academic content grounding with education and pedagogical knowledge. The programme aims to produce graduates with intellectual rigour, strong leadership skills, and a global perspective, who are ready to make significant contributions to the Education Service.

Dual Competencies

The programme combines academic content specialisation with education and pedagogical knowledge.

Undergraduates are required to undertake research projects in their content areas as well as in education. You can become a specialist in your chosen academic disciplines while equipping yourself with transferable skills that will prepare you to be a leader in the field of education.
Teaching Accreditation The NTU-NIE BABSc is the only bachelor’s degree programme in Singapore accredited for teaching in MOE schools. You will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts/Science degree in an Academic Discipline and in Education.
Holistic Education

The programme places a strong emphasis on overseas exposure, leadership development and community engagement.

Through semester exchanges and international practicum with leading partner universities, you will develop unique perspectives to manage diversity in a globalised world. You will also develop leadership and social skills through community engagement programmes. Such traits and competencies will give you an edge and mark yourself as a well-rounded individual eminently suitable for any profession.

As a graduate, you achieve the same level of academic specialisation as any degree holder of your chosen discipline. Graduates from the BABSc programme are well received across both local and international academic circles, securing coveted opportunities within the global education community.

Outstanding students in the BABSc programme will have the opportunity to be placed in the Teaching Scholars Programme (TSP). The TSP is one of NTU’s premier scholars programmes.
