Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)

4. Compulsory Untrained Teaching Stint

The final part of the process for entry into the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programme is a compulsory stint as an untrained contract teacher at a school. During this stint, the school will assess your suitability for teaching.

The stint will also allow you to:

  • Try out the profession and experience the work day of a teacher
  • Confirm your interest in teaching
  • Gain valuable practical experience before you enrol into the National Institute of Education (NIE)

You will get the opportunity to do the following:

  • Classroom teaching of subject(s)
  • Assist with CCA and school activities
  • Learn how to communicate with parents effectively
  • Find out about the roles and responsibilities of a form teacher

You will be guided by a mentor during your Untrained Teaching Stint and supported by the school as you embark on your teaching journey.

The Untrained Teaching Stint generally lasts at least 4 months, and will continue until your enrolment into NIE.
