4. Compulsory Contract Teaching Stint
As part of your journey to entry into the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PDGE) programme, you will get hands-on experience through a contract teaching stint in a school. This is a great opportunity to dive into the profession, affirm your interest in teaching, and get a real feel for school life before starting your formal training at NIE. The school will assess your suitability for teaching during this time.
You can look forward to:
- Teaching your subject(s)
- Helping with CCAs, school activities, and form teacher duties
- Developing communication skills
- Guidance from a mentor and support from the school
The stint typically runs for at least 4 months. Once you have completed it successfully, you will be ready to start at NIE.
