Super Trouper Performing Arts Group

The Super Trouper Choir aims to motivate and inspire students to find their strengths and talents through music and gives them opportunities to build their confidence through performing in front of large audiences. Students learn to sing and memorise the lyrics using picture cards and keyword signs. They have since performed in major events such as the Community Chest Awards Ceremony at the Istana, National Day Parade, True Colours Concert.

Eco Buddy Programme

The Eco team in LGS actively engages all staff, students and stakeholders to play an active role in preserving our environment. In collaboration with our community partners, the school organises Eco Buddy activities and also actively takes part in programmes under NParks such as Biodiversity week and Green Wave movement.

In recognition of all its efforts, the school has obtained the Singapore Kopsia Award in 2019, Community in Bloom Award 2018 (Gold), Young Environmentalist & Botanist Certificates & Badges (2019) for the Green Club students.

Transition Programme – Special Events Team (SET)

SET provides authentic learning experiences to facilitate successful post-school transition through development of holistic Individual Transition Plan. It also aims at equipping students with the necessary skills for securing and sustaining employment.

SET is set up as part of the Transition Programme and aims to expose students to the various jobs available outside curriculum time. Staff have facilitated workshops and exhibitions together with TerraSG in promoting upcycling and ushering duties at events like the Community Chest Awards, Singapore Writer Fest and Ministry of Bells concert.

Sports

LGS offers a range of Sports CCA, including Basketball, Floorball, Tennis, Soccer, Bocce and Badminton. Most sports programmes are coached by teachers and some by external coaches. We have worked with Ignite Tennis Academy and SportCares to provide Tennis and Floorball training respectively for our students. We have also partnered Queenstown Secondary School in the Play Inclusive Unified Basketball for 2 consecutive years.

Cheng Chang Jing Alumni (Graduated in 2017) Cheng Chang Jing is a 20-year old youth, diagnosed with ASD, who graduated in 2017. During his initial years with LGS, he had very poor attention span and displayed disruptive behaviours. He made significant improvement and was placed in the Junior Level programme at 10 years old. Chang Jing showed keen interest in sports and performing arts. He was selected to represent Singapore at the 2011 Special Olympics World Games in Athens, Greece for Bocce and Athletics and won two silver medals. In 2015, Chang Jing participated in the “Torch Up! Extraordinary Run”, a prelude, to the lighting of the SEA Games Torch which was held in Singapore. Chang Jing was also a member of the special needs contingent that performed at the National Day Parade 2016. In addition, Chang Jing performed at the Very Special Arts (VSA) Concert in August 2016 and 2017. In terms of Vocational achievement, Chang Jing successfully obtained the WSQ Statement of Attainment for Food Hygiene in 2016 and Hard Floor Cleaning in 2017. He participated in numerous work attachment programmes which led to his internship with Popeye’s and eventually to his employment at Pizza Hut. Chang Jing has successfully integrated into society.

Lee Tien Ler Daniel Senior Class Daniel is a 13-year-old boy with Down syndrome. He enrolled in LGS when he was 7 years old. Initially, he displayed negative behaviours such as throwing things to express his dislike. But in recent years, Daniel’s anxiety and frustration have greatly reduced with the use of visual schedules. In addition, the use of key word signs and short phrases has helped him express himself better. In order to work on being more disciplined and focused, and to improve his social behaviour, Daniel joined the Lynx Scouts group in school. A loyal boy scout, he has displayed his strength in character by never giving up, which now helps him succeed when faced with challenges. Daniel is self-motivated, especially during Domestic Science lessons. Capitalising on his interest in meal preparation, he was taught to focus on being patient while baking and appreciate the process of slowly putting together various ingredients to make a meal. This has helped him learn to manage his emotions better. He has shown great improvement in paying attention to detail, exploring his creativity as well as working towards becoming more independent.

Luis Tiang Zheng Xiang Senior Class Luis is a 13-year-old boy who was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. He is able to follow the school curriculum but requires high support in managing his sensory needs. Luis needs a structured environment for him to make sense of his surroundings and learn what is required of him for learning and working. With the consistent support of his teachers and caregivers in the use of visual structures, work systems and visual schedules, Luis has made very good progress within the last 2 years. Besides being able to use a visual work system in school to complete his work independently, Luis has become proficient in managing the work system. Currently, he assists in setting up and putting away both his and his peers’ work systems. He also uses the same visual work schedule system at home to become more independent in his daily life.
