Integrated Programme

The Integrated Programme (IP) is a 6-year course leading to the GCE A-Level examination or International Baccalaureate Diploma or NUS High School Diploma. Students in the IP do not need to take the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) in Secondary 4.

Integrated Programme—GCE A-Level
Year 1 through Year 4

As students need not sit for the SEC in Secondary 4, they will engage in a broader range of learning experiences in both academic and non-academic areas.

JC1 and JC2 / Years 5 and 6

After Secondary 4, students will take a combination of subjects in these fields:

  • Languages (e.g. Mother Tongue Languages).
  • Humanities and the Arts (e.g. Economics, English Literature, Geography, History, Music).
  • Mathematics and Sciences (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computing).

At the end of year 6 (JC2), your child will sit for the GCE A-Level examination. Depending on their results, they may apply to universities.

Integrated Programme—International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is an alternative to the GCE A-Level curriculum. The IP leading to the IBDP is offered at Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Methodist Girls' School and St. Joseph’s Institution (SJI).

Year 1 through Year 4

As students need not sit for the SEC in Secondary 4, they will engage in a broader range of learning experiences in both academic and non-academic areas.

JC1 and JC2 / Years 5 and 6

Students are required to select a course from each of the 6 subject groups:

  1. Studies in Language and Literature
  2. Language Acquisition (Second Language)
  3. Individuals and Societies (Economics, Geography, History, Business Management)
  4. Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science)
  5. Mathematics
  6. The Arts (Visual Arts, Music)

Students will also have to complete the 3 IBDP core components:

  1. Theory of Knowledge
  2. Extended Essay
  3. Creativity, Action, Service

Your child’s performance in the IBDP is assessed through a combination of coursework (e.g. fieldwork, laboratory work, investigations or artistic performances) as well as written examinations at the end of year 6 (JC2). Depending on their results, they may apply to universities.

Integrated Programme—NUS High School Diploma

The NUS High School of Mathematics and Science offers a 6-year course that caters to students with talents and strong interests in Science and Mathematics. Students will study the following 6-year curriculum:

Foundation Years (Year 1 to 3)

Students take fundamental courses in Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Language, Music and the Arts.

They also learn foundational research and innovation skills.

Specialisation Years (Year 4 to 6)

Students focus on three chosen majors in Mathematics and Science.

They can also take an optional fourth major in Science, Humanities, Music or the Arts.

Additional requirements

Students must complete a graded Advanced Research Project in order to graduate.

At the end of year 6, your child will be awarded the NUS High School Diploma. Depending on their results, they may apply to universities.

Applying to NUS High School of Mathematics and Science

If your child is interested in attending the NUS High School of Mathematics and Science, they will have to apply through Direct School Admission for secondary schools (DSA-Sec). Refer to their website for application timelines.
