Polytechnic diploma course

Learn about the admission criteria starting from 2028 PSE.

To be eligible for admission into a polytechnic diploma course, you must meet these 2 criteria:

  1. Your ELR2B2 net aggregate score must not exceed 22.
    • For Diploma in Nursing, your ELR2B2-C net aggregate score must not exceed 24.
  2. Meet the minimum entry requirements (MER) of the course that you are applying for.
    • Find out the MER of specific courses on CourseFinder, which currently features information for 2026 admissions. Revisit the pages in mid-2027 for updated course information specific to 2028 admission.

Please note that the 2026 JAE ELR2B2 aggregate score in CourseFinder is based on all O-Level results. There will be a change in PSE whereby G2 equivalent subject grade will be used for the 2nd best subject.

Aggregate computation

ELR2B2 net aggregate score
= English Language (EL) + 2 Relevant Subjects (R1, R2) + 2 Best Subjects (B1, B2) minus CCA bonus points

  • EL, R1, R2 and B1 will use G3 subject grade, while B2 will use G2 equivalent grade.
  • GCE O-Level and N(A)-Level will be considered as equivalent to G3 and G2 respectively.
ELR2B2 Subjects
EL G3 English Language
R1 Any 1 best-scoring G3 relevant subject
R2 Any 1 best-scoring G3 relevant subject
B1 1st best-scoring G3 subject
B2 2nd best-scoring subject can be taken at either G2 or G3 level. Computed using G2 equivalent grade.

Mapping of G3/O-Level grade to G2/N(A)-Level grade

G3 / O-Level grade G2 / N(A)-Level grade
A1 to B3 1
B4 to C6 2
D7 3
E8 4

G3/O-Level grade 9 and G2/N(A)-Level grade 5 and 6 cannot be used for ELR2B2 aggregate score computation.

If you are using 2 G3 subjects for B1 and B2 requirements

The subject with the better grade will be used for B1 and the other G3 grade will be mapped to G2 equivalent grade for B2.

For example:

  • G3 Chinese: grade A2
  • G3 Physics: grade B4

The better Chinese A2 grade will be used for the B1 subject. The Physics grade will be mapped from G3 grade B4 to G2 grade 2 for the B2 subject.

If you have taken the same subject at different subject levels (e.g. G2/N(A) and G3/O-Level) and using them for B2 subject

The better grade at G2 level will be used to compute your aggregate score.

For example:

  • G3 Mathematics: grade B4 (G2-mapped grade 2)
  • G2 Mathematics: grade 1

As your G2 Mathematics grade 1 is better than the G2-mapped grade 2, your G2 Mathematics Grade 1 will be used for the B2 subject.

Aggregate types

Each polytechnic diploma course uses one of the aggregate types below to assess course eligibility.

Please note that the courses listed under each aggregate type, along with their net aggregate scores and fields of study, are based on the 2026 admissions for the O-Level cohort.

SEC students should check back in mid-2027 for updated course information specific to 2028 admissions information.

Learn which O-Level subjects are used to compute each aggregate type based on 2026 JAE.

If you have taken Mother Tongue and subsequently Higher Mother Tongue for the same language

You can only use one score (i.e. the better of the two scores) in aggregate score computation.

For example, in ELR2B2-C aggregate type, if Higher Chinese is used as the best subject B1, Chinese cannot be used as the best subject B2.

  • Higher Mother Tongue Language: Higher Chinese, Higher Malay and Higher Tamil
  • Mother Tongue Language: Chinese, Malay and Tamil

Bonus points for admission

The CCA bonus points are subtracted from your gross aggregate scores to obtain the respective net aggregate scores to assess course eligibility and for posting.

CCA grade awarded to graduates of national secondary school No. of bonus points
  • Excellent
  • A1 or A2
2
  • Good
  • B3 to C6

Examples of ELR2B2 aggregate computation

Learn how ELR2B2 aggregate scores are computed with different subject combinations and grades:

  • If you are a private candidate, current or ex-student of other types of pathway (JC, MI, polytechnic foundation programme or ITE) and are eligible to apply for polytechnic diploma courses through PSE, you will still be eligible for the CCA bonus points if you have obtained the above CCA grade.
  • You can explore available polytechnic diploma courses in CourseFinder, which currently features information for 2026 admissions.
  • Revisit these pages in mid-2027 for updated course information specific to 2028 admission.
