Institute of Technical Education 2-Year Higher Nitec

Learn about the admission criteria starting from 2028 PSE.

Admission criteria starting from 2028 PSE

To be eligible for admission to a 2-Year Higher Nitec course at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), you must meet these 2 criteria:

  1. Your ELMAB3 gross aggregate score computed based on G2 equivalent grade must not exceed 19.
  2. Meet the minimum entry requirements (MER) of the course that you are applying for.
    • Find out the MER of specific courses on CourseFinder, which currently features information for 2026 admissions. Revisit these pages in mid-2027 for updated course information specific to 2028 admission.

The 2026 JAE aggregate scores for 2-Year Higher Nitec courses in CourseFinder is based on O-Level results. There will be a change in PSE whereby G2 equivalent subject grade will be used for aggregate score computation.

Aggregate computation for 2-Year Higher Nitec courses

ELMAB3 gross aggregate score using G2 equivalent grade
= English Language (EL) + Mathematics (MA) + 3 Best Subjects (B1, B2 and B3)

ELMAB3 Subjects using G2 equivalent grade
EL English Language
MA Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
B1 1st best-scoring subject
B2 2nd best-scoring subject
B3 3rd best-scoring subject

Mapping of G3/O-Level grade to G2/N(A)-Level grade

ELMAB3 gross aggregate score is computed using G2 equivalent grades only.

If you have taken subjects at G3 level, the G3 grades will be mapped to G2 equivalent grades.

GCE O-Level and N(A)-Level will be considered as equivalent to G3 and G2 respectively.

G3 / O-Level grade G2 / N(A)-Level grade
A1 to B3 1
B4 to C6 2
D7 3
E8 4
9 5
- 6

G3 grade 9 and G2 grade 6 can be used for aggregate computation, but cannot be used to fulfil subject-specific minimum entry requirements.

If you have taken the same subject at different subject levels e.g. G2/N(A) and G3/O-Level

The better grade at G2 level will be used to compute your aggregate score.

For example:

  • G3 Mathematics: grade B4 (G2-mapped grade 2)
  • G2 Mathematics: grade 1

As your G2 Mathematics grade 1 is better than the G2-mapped grade 2, your G2 Mathematics grade 1 will be used for the Mathematics requirement in the ELMAB3 aggregate score.

If you have taken Mother Tongue and subsequently Higher Mother Tongue for the same language

You can only use one score (i.e. the better of the two scores) in aggregate score computation.

For example, if Higher Chinese is used as the best subject B1, Chinese cannot be used as the best subject B2.

  • Higher Mother Tongue Language: Higher Chinese, Higher Malay, and Higher Tamil
  • Mother Tongue Language: Chinese, Malay and Tamil

Bonus points

The CCA bonus points are subtracted from your gross aggregate scores to obtain the respective net aggregate scores for posting. You can get a maximum of 2 bonus points from CCA grade.

Examples of ELMAB3 aggregate computation

Learn how ELMAB3 aggregate scores are computed with different subject combinations and grades:

  • If you are a private candidate, current or ex-student of other types of institution (JC, MI, or polytechnic) and are eligible to apply for ITE courses through PSE, you will still be eligible for the CCA bonus points if you have obtained the above CCA grade.
  • You can explore available 2-Year Higher Nitec courses in CourseFinder, which currently features information for 2026 admissions.
