2. I am glad to join you for your 70th Anniversary.
A Proud History Rooted in Faith and Community
3. You were founded in 1956 by the Anglican Diocese, with just 6 teachers and 123 students. 70 years on, you have nurtured generations of students. As a Special Assistance Plan (SAP) school since 1979, you've also given students a strong bicultural and bilingual foundation.

4. And, this has been possible because of the steadfast efforts of the Anglican High community. With each generation building on the work before them. I want to thank all of you for your service.
5. I would also like to pay special tribute to the late Encik Hassan Bin Ahmad — fondly remembered by many alumni as Uncle Hassan. I'm told that he was part of the Anglican High family in 1959 and served for 55 years, until 2014. He looked after the school's premises, and also cared for the students. We are honoured that his eldest son, Mr Aziz Bin Hassan, and daughter-in-law, Mdm Siti Nurazizah Abdullah, are with us tonight. Thank you for joining us!
Nurturing Strong Values and Cross-Community Connections
6. These stories reflect Anglican High's culture, and its strong emphasis on holistic development. In an increasingly complex world our values are our anchor and our only hope.
7. And that is why your school vision remains meaningful: to lead honourably, learn for life, and create value for others.
8. I am glad that your students continue to live out these values.
- For example, Secondary Two students Lyz Chen, Benjamin Teo and Khoo Wei Zhi noticed that bus captains had to leave their seats to help passengers using mobility devices board the bus. So they developed EzyRamp — a prototype ramp that can be activated at the push of a button.
9. Anglican High also helps students build meaningful connections across cultures, which is an important part of the SAP school culture.
- We want our SAP school students to deepen their understanding of Chinese language and culture, and engage the region with confidence.
- At the same time, they must be able to embrace Singapore's multicultural diversity.
Looking Forward with Gratitude and Purpose
10. That is why Anglican High deliberately connects students with peers and communities from different cultures and backgrounds. And these experiences help our young people see what we share in common, while learning to appreciate and accommodate our differences. I wish all of you a happy reunion. Happy 70th Anniversary. May you continue to nurture students for a future of Singapore that is bright and hopeful.
