More Than 10,000 Student Athletes Recognised for Sporting Achievements at Colours Award 2026

This year, a total of 10,061 student-athletes received recognition for their sporting achievements and display of good sporting character through the Singapore Schools Sports Council (SSSC) Colours Award. The Award is presented to students from secondary schools, junior colleges, and Millennia Institute.

2.Student-athletes were awarded based on their sporting performance from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026. The criteria for the awards are listed in Annex A, and the recipients for the SSSC Best Sportsboy and Best Sportsgirl Awards are listed in Annex B. The awards were presented to:

  • 53 student-athletes from 15 schools, who received the SSSC Best Sportsboy Award and SSSC Best Sportsgirl Award;
  • 553 student-athletes from 98 schools, who received the SSSC Colours Award (Distinction); and
  • 9,455 student-athletes from 151 schools, who received the SSSC Colours Award.

3.The SSSC Best Sportsboy and Best Sportsgirl Awards were presented by Singapore Olympian and rower, Ms Joan Poh Xue Hua, at the Colours Award Presentation on 25 September 2026. The ceremony, held at Kent Ridge Secondary School, also marked the closing of the National School Games (NSG) 2026, which saw more than 70,000 student-athletes competing in various sports and games from January to August.

Recognition of student-athletes in SPED schools

4.From 2026, the SSSC Colours Award (Distinction) for State Representation is extended to eligible student-athletes from Special Education (SPED) schools in recognition of their achievements in representing Singapore in physical sports competitions. Eligible student-athletes may be nominated by the Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC) and Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC), both of which are recognised by SSSC.

Updates to the National School Games

5.SSSC reviews the sports offered at the NSG to keep the Games relevant and meaningful for students. In view of growing student interest and participation, as well as the increasing number of schools offering Tchoukball as a Co-Curricular Activity, Tchoukball will be introduced across all NSG divisions from 2027. This will provide student-athletes with more opportunities to participate and compete in Tchoukball.

6.Trampoline will be progressively retired from the NSG by 20291, following careful consideration of the broader school sport landscape, including sustained low participation at the NSG. The Ministry of Education is working with Singapore Gymnastics to support students’ continued access to competition opportunities.

  1. In 2027, all three divisions (‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’) will continue as usual. In 2028, only ‘A’ and ‘B’ divisions will be organised, subject to a minimum of three registered participants from two different schools. In 2029, the Trampoline event at the NSG will retire.
