Four Teachers Recognised at Most Inspiring Tamil Teachers' Award Ceremony 2026

Four teachers received the Most Inspiring Tamil Teachers' (MITT) Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the teaching and learning of the Tamil Language. In addition to the MITT Award, one teacher was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award while another received the Best National Institute of Education (NIE) Tamil Trainee Teacher Award. 2. Guest-of-Honour Mr Dinesh Vasu Dash, Chairman of the Tamil Promotion Committee (TPC), Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Ministry of Manpower, and Mayor of South East District, presented the awards to the recipients at the MITT Award Ceremony today.

3. Jointly organised by Tamil Murasu (TM), the Singapore Tamil Teachers' Union (STTU) and the TPC, the MITT Award recognises the stellar performance of our Tamil Language teachers in educating and promoting Tamil language among their students. Award winners also serve as role models for other Tamil Language educators in nurturing our students' love for the language and using technology creatively to enhance learning. Each award recipient will receive a plaque, a certificate of achievement and a cash grant.

4. This year, 491 nominations for 174 teachers were received between February and March 2026. All Tamil Language teachers in local mainstream schools were eligible to be nominated for the Award.

5. The awardees were selected by a panel of judges comprising key representatives from TM, STTU and TPC. Since the Award's inception in 2002, it has affirmed the contributions of over 200 inspiring Tamil Language educators in our primary and secondary schools, junior colleges and Millennia Institute.

About the Tamil Promotion Committee

The Tamil Promotion Committee (TPC), formerly known as the Tamil Language Learning and Promotion Committee, was established in February 2006 by the Ministry of Education to bring together schools, community organisations, the media and professional bodies to foster the learning of Tamil language, literature and culture beyond the classroom. Currently chaired by Mr Dinesh Vasu Dash, Minister of State at the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Ministry of Manpower, the TPC actively organises engaging and interactive activities that inspire students and cultivate a lifelong appreciation for Tamil language and culture. The Committee was rebranded in March 2026 to commemorate its 20th anniversary and to reflect its enhanced role of promoting Tamil language learning through greater digital engagement and youth and family involvement.
