Record Turnout of Over 2,600 Student Participants at 9th National Text Recital Competition

第九届全国课文朗诵比赛创历史新高，逾2600名学生参与

Over 2,600 students from 281 primary and secondary schools, junior colleges, and Millennia Institute submitted more than 1,500 video entries for the 9th National Text Recital Competition – the largest turnout in the competition's history.

2 At the award ceremony today, 105 students emerged winners and were recognised for their vocal articulation, fluency and stage presence. Guest-of-Honour Ms Jasmin Lau, Minister of State for Education and Chairperson of the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL), delivered a speech and presented awards to the winners (see Annex for the list of award winners).

3 Jointly organised by the CPCLL, Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School, Chung Cheng High School (Main), and the Singapore Chinese Teachers Literary Recital Society, the competition aims to raise Chinese language reading proficiency among students, ignite their love for learning the language, and deepen their understanding and appreciation of Chinese texts.

4 In the lead-up to the competition, teachers and students had access to a variety of instructional videos and past winning performances on CPCLL's YouTube channel, allowing them to learn at their own pace and refine their recitation skills.

About the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning

The Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL) was established in January 2005 by the Ministry of Education to bring together schools, community organisations, the media and professional bodies to foster the learning of Chinese language, literature and culture beyond the classroom.
