1. Racial Harmony Day (RHD), which falls on 21 July, is commemorated annually by schools to deepen students' appreciation of racial harmony, multiculturalism, and social cohesion. Continuing with the theme of "Our People, Our Tapestry", the emphasis is on how various cultural threads, each representing the unique identities, traditions, beliefs, and practices of our diverse communities, are interwoven with one another. It reflects how Singapore's multicultural tapestry can remain strong and unified through fostering mutual understanding and respect across ethnic and religious communities.
2. Minister for Education, Mr Desmond Lee, joined students and staff at St. Anthony's Canossian Primary School to commemorate RHD on 21 July. Minister was welcomed by the school choir with the song "Little Red Dot" written by Singaporean composer Liong Kit Yeng, before joining a Primary 6 Character and Citizenship Education lesson, where students discussed the topic of racial stereotypes and how they could respond to promote greater understanding of one another's culture. Minister then visited 'Weaving Our Tapestry', a collaborative installation of paper links bearing messages reflecting our community's strength, diversity, and unity, before interacting with students at booths showcasing traditional games, food, music, and cultural practices from Singapore's different communities.
3. Minister also viewed a tiles exhibit created by Primary 1 students, who drew inspiration from Singapore's heritage to explore colour planning. The visit concluded with Minister sharing his personal experiences with racial harmony with students.
