News Press Releases

1. Eight Singapore students competed against more than 1,600 students from 64 countries, regions, and territories at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2023. Regeneron ISEF is one of the world's largest annual pre-college science fairs that provides a platform for top science and engineering talents to showcase their projects.

2. In total, four individual projects and two team projects1 were submitted to ISEF, which was held in person in Dallas, Texas, USA, from 13 to 19 May 20232. The students exchanged insights with young scientists from all over the world and gained valuable experience. The Ministry of Education (MOE), the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), and Science Centre Singapore congratulate them on their strong performance at this year's fair.

3. Our students demonstrated their keen ability to grasp and apply STEM concepts through research and developed innovative solutions for real-world challenges. Mr Ivan Joel You Wen Jie from NUS High School of Mathematics and Science significantly enhanced a thermoelectric compound such that it can efficiently harness waste heat energy to generate electricity. Ms Mirdhini Shri Rajaram and Ms Ong Yu Xi from Raffles Institution developed a software application that assists sign language users to expressively communicate with others by converting gestures and facial expressions into natural speech with appropriate intonations to convey emotions.

4. The Singapore delegation clinched 7 awards. The award-winning projects are as follows (details in Annex A):
