2022 年全国中学生灯谜比赛

371 students from 32 secondary schools participated in the National Chinese Riddle Competition (全国中学生灯谜比赛) as they celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival on 10 September 2022. The inaugural competition, jointly organised by the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL), Tung Ann District Guild, Riddle Association (Singapore) and Hwa Chong Institution, aims to promote traditional Lantern Riddles and instil a love for Chinese language and culture in students.

2. Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State, Ministry of Education and Chairperson for the CPCLL, delivered a virtual address at the Opening Ceremony of the competition to encourage the students to explore and appreciate the beauty of traditional Chinese culture. Mr Xie Yao Quan, CPCLL Group Leader, officiated the ceremony and presented awards to winning students.

3. At the competition, student participants took part in a pen-and-paper quiz before the top ten groups from each category emerged to compete in a live quiz at the finals. The words to be guessed were aligned with what the students learnt in the curriculum. Students compete according to the level of the Chinese Language curriculum which they offer. Before the competition, a learning camp was organised for participants on Chinese Riddles appreciation and riddle-solving techniques. See Annex for list of participating schools.
