Mother Tongue Languages Symposium Set to Promote Ways to Spark Children's Love for Learning Their Mother Tongue

The Ministry of Education and the three Mother Tongue Language Learning and Promotion Committees (MTLLPCs) will hold the annual flagship Mother Tongue Languages Symposium on Saturday, 27 August 2022, at the Republic Cultural Centre in Republic Polytechnic.

2. Now in its 11th year, the theme of this year's symposium "A Garden for Joyful Discovery" focuses on how educators, parents and community partners can work together to create an enjoyable, vibrant and nurturing environment for pre-school and primary school children to learn and appreciate their Mother Tongue Languages.

3. The symposium will feature a live panel discussion between Minister for Education Mr Chan Chun Sing and chairpersons of the respective MTLLPCs, Second Minister for Education Dr Maliki Osman, Minister of State for Education Ms Gan Siow Huang, and Mr Vikram Nair, on the topic of co-creating a joyful Mother Tongue Language learning environment for children.

4. The symposium will feature more than 40 online exhibits and close to 30 sharing sessions on ways to promote Mother Tongue Language literacy and appreciation, drawing from the perspectives of academics, educators, curriculum specialists and media personalities. This year, parents and children can pre-register for interactive workshops such as speech and drama sessions and poetry writing, as well as storytelling sessions via the symposium's Facebook and Instagram pages.
