News Press Releases

Singapore will be hosting the 9th ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey (APT JSO) for the first time from 20 – 23 June 2022 (see Annex A for event highlights).

2. Designed around the theme "Building an Environmentally Sustainable Future", this year's event will bring together 26 teams from the ASEAN Plus Three countries1 and an observer team from Sweden. Singapore is represented by teams from Cedar Girls' Secondary School, Pasir Ris Secondary School, Raffles Institution, and Singapore Chinese Girls' School. Each team, which comprise up to three students and one teacher, was selected based on their sustainability challenge project submissions open to all schools earlier in February this year (see Annex B for more details).

3. In this four-day event, students will participate in science challenges and workshops, and interact virtually with sustainability researchers. Segments of the event will be livestreamed on https://9thaptjso.org. Members of the public can participate in the event by joining the livestreams, or even create and share videos of their sustainability solutions or upcycling ideas.2

4. Established in 2012 by the ASEAN+3 Center for the Gifted in Science (ACGS), the APT JSO aims to encourage talented secondary school students in the ASEAN Plus Three countries to stimulate their intellectual curiosity and motivate them to pursue careers in the field of science and technology. The event also provides students the opportunity to connect with other like-minded individuals, and form friendships and networks in the ASEAN Plus Three region. This year, the event is organised by the Ministry of Education, Science Centre Singapore and ACGS, in partnership with NUS High School of Mathematics and Science.
