Name and Constituency of Member of Parliament

Ms Gho Sze Kee, Mountbatten

Question

To ask the Minister for Education whether the Ministry will consider requiring secondary schools to clearly signpost in advance the academic criteria for students to progress to a more demanding subject level, and allowing students who meet those criteria to progress automatically instead of leaving the final decision to the discretion of individual schools.

Response

  1. We refer to the reply to a similar parliamentary question issued on 5 August 2026. There are no plans to require secondary schools to provide the academic criteria for students to automatically progress to a more demanding level, as schools consider many factors including each student's interests, aptitude and ability to manage the overall curricular load.
