Proportion of Resigning Teachers Joined Flexi-Adjunct Teaching Scheme

Question

To ask the Minister for Education (a) in each of the last five years, what proportion of resigning teachers joined the Flexi-Adjunct Teaching Scheme within 12 months; (b) whether a Flexi-Adjunct Teacher may decline form teachership or co-curricular duties and remain engaged; (c) how duties exceeding the paid hours are treated; and (d) whether those who resigned and those on no-pay leave are engaged on the same terms.

Response

1. Over the past five years, around a quarter of teachers who resigned were engaged as Flexi-Adjunct Teachers (FAJTs) within a year of leaving the Education Service.
2. Every FAJT performs both teaching and non-teaching duties, which may include form teachership, CCA duties, or other responsibilities in the school.
3. FAJTs are paid hourly for the work performed and their working hours are subject to a cap. Schools are guided to ensure that the duties assigned to FAJTs are within the paid hours.
4. Education Officers who are on No-Pay Leave (NPL) or resign to join the FAJT scheme are engaged on the same terms.
