Question

To ask the Minister for Education for each year from 2015 to 2025, what is the proportion of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) as a share of total enrolment, broken down by school type (i) Government (ii) Government-aided (iii) independent (iv) Special Assistance Plan and (v) Integrated Programme schools.

Response

  1. Around 7% of the student population in General Education (Gen Ed) schools have Special Educational Needs (SEN). All schools have students with SEN and can support them.
  2. The student population with SEN has risen gradually across all school types. In 2025, it is 8% for both Government and Government-aided Schools; 3% for Integrated Programme Schools (which includes Independent Schools) and 4% for Special Assistant Plan Schools.
