Dr Wan Rizal, Jalan Besar GRC

Question

To ask the Minister for Education what is the current percentage of polytechnic graduates who successfully secure full-time employment in industries relevant to the course of their polytechnic studies.

Response

1. Based on the annual Graduate Employment Survey (GES) conducted by the polytechnics between 2017 and 2019, about three in four graduates who were in full-time permanent employment six months after graduation reported that their job was related to their polytechnic course.

2. With rapid technological changes and disruptions in the economy, we should not expect that all polytechnic graduates go into or remain in jobs related to their course of study.

3. Polytechnic courses are therefore designed to provide students with breadth of exposure, in addition to deep skills in an applied setting. The polytechnics also provide students with structured Education and Career Guidance over the course of their studies, to support each student in better understanding the industry landscape in their chosen field, and help them identify job opportunities that are aligned to their individual strengths and interests.
