NAME AND CONSTITUENCY OF MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT

Mr Don Wee, Chua Chu Kang GRC

QUESTION

To ask the Minister for Education whether the Ministry will consider building another primary school in the Brickland constituency as there are many young families moving into the constituency and the transport connectivity to the primary schools situated in nearby constituencies is wanting.

RESPONSE

  1. We note that the Member had asked a similar Parliamentary Question in October 2020. Our assessment remains unchanged in that the existing primary schools in the vicinity of Brickland constituency have sufficient places to serve residents, and therefore we have no plans to build a new primary school there.
  2. Nevertheless, we would like to assure the Member that MOE regularly reviews the number of primary schools nationally and by residential areas to ensure that there are sufficient school places for our students. If and when we have made a firm decision to build a new school, we will provide sufficient advance notice to the public on the likely timeline for the opening of the new school.
