MOE Working with Schools on Beverage Container Return Scheme

Published on: 06 Apr 2026

NewsForum letter replies

We refer to Ms Jennifer Ho's letter "Container return scheme difficult for school canteen stallholders to manage" (March 25).

Under the Return Right F&B Scheme, participation is wholly voluntary for F&B operators with dine-in service. Participating F&B outlets under the Return Right F&B Scheme collect back Beverage Container Return Scheme (BCRS)-regulated beverage containers after consumption during dine-in without charging customers the 10-cent deposit.

The Ministry of Education, together with the National Environment Agency, will work closely with schools to implement the BCRS. Schools will engage their stallholders to understand their operational considerations, before deciding on the implementation approach.
