Humanities Talent Development
This Humanities Talent Development programme helps students to develop a deeper knowledge of the Humanities subjects. Under this broad programme, there are 3 subject-based Talent Development Programmes (TDPs) and an interdisciplinary Humanities Scholarship and Programme (HSP). Learn more about it.
Overview
The Humanities Talent Development programme helps students to develop a deeper knowledge of Economics, Geography and History. The programme helps students to appreciate Singapore’s national identity and interests in relation to the region and the world. Students will get to engage in deep conversations and discussions about challenges and opportunities that Singapore faces as well as regional and international developments.
The programme helps to develop student’s critical thinking, discernment, cultural sensitivity and empathy for others in society. Based on the 21st Century Competencies (21CC) framework, it equips students with key skills as they enter university and the workforce.
About TDPs and HSP
This programme comprises 3 subject-based TDPs for students from secondary schools, junior colleges and Millennia Institute, and an interdisciplinary HSP that caters to Humanities Scholars.

The Economics TDP helps students in junior colleges and Millennia Institute who have strong interest and ability in Economics to deepen their interest and learning. Students will have the opportunity to engage with professionals through seminars and symposiums, such as:
- GIC-MOE Economics Experience
- MOE Economics Student Symposium
- ESS-MOE-CSC Annual Economics Seminar
Students can also take part in the following Economics-related competitions organised by various statutory boards, government agencies and institutes of higher learning:
- MAS-ESS Essay Competition
- NUS-ISE Business Analytics Case Competition
- CCCS-ESS Essay Competition
The Geography TDP provides students in secondary schools, junior colleges and Millennia Institute the opportunity to deepen their existing knowledge in the different sub-fields of the subject, and how to apply geographical understanding to the real-world.
Students can engage with professionals from the following government agencies and institutes of higher learning:
- Land Transport Authority
- Singapore Land Authority
- National Parks Board
- National Library Board
- GIC Private Limited
- Urban Redevelopment Authority
- Department of Geography, National University of Singapore (NUS)
- Humanities and Social Studies Academic Group, National Institute of Education (NIE)

The History TDP provides students in secondary schools, junior colleges and Millennia Institute the opportunity to engage with the subject and develop their historical interest, understanding and skills.
Students who are in the History TDP at the secondary level can continue the programme at the pre-university level when they enrol in a junior college or Millennia Institute.
Students can look forward to the following learning experiences:
- Workshops and seminars by History academics from local universities.
- Learning journeys to authentic history sites.
- Research projects of students’ own choice in the areas of conservation, social history and oral history.
- Internships with our partner agencies.
Students are selected through the MOE History Challenge.
This is an interdisciplinary programme tied to the Humanities Scholarship. It is open for application to JC students and aims to develop the humanities scholars into values-driven and thought leaders at the local, regional and global levels.
