Update on COVID-19 Vaccination for Children Born Between 2010 to 2012

Published Date: 23 December 2021 09:00 PM

News Press Releases

1. As part of national efforts to keep our children, their families and the wider community safe, the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) announced the extension of the national vaccination programme to include children aged 5 to 11 on 21 December 2021, with registration starting from 22 December 2021.

2. On 22 December 2021, SMS invitations have been sent to about 110,000 parents/guardians of students in MOE primary schools and Madrasahs, who would be in Primary 4 to 6 in 2022, to register for vaccination. As of 7 pm on 23 December 2021, more than one in three students have been signed up by their parents/guardians for vaccination, and all slots for December 2021 have been fully taken up.

3. To facilitate the timely vaccination of our children, the opening of the National Appointment System (NAS) will be brought forward . From 26 December 2021 (Sunday), parents/guardians of all children born between 2010 to 2012 can register their interest to vaccinate their child/ward at child.vaccine.gov.sg. After registration, parents/guardians will receive a unique link via SMS within 3 to 5 working days to book a vaccination appointment.

4. Children born in 2009 who have reached 12 years of age on the date of their first vaccination appointment will be required to take the Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine for ages 12 and above. These children can walk in, accompanied by one parent/guardian, to any of the 22 vaccination centres offering the Pfizer-BioNTech/Cominarty COVID-19 vaccine without a prior appointment . They need not register their interest at NAS to receive a unique link to book a vaccination appointment.

5. We strongly encourage parents/guardians to register their child/ward for vaccination when they receive the invitation, if they are medically eligible, so that families can get their desired dates for vaccination.

Footnotes
  1. In the earlier joint press release (https://www.moe.gov.sg/news/press-releases/20211221-protecting-our-children-from-covid-19-with-vaccination-for-5-to-11-year-olds), the opening of NAS was slated for 27 December 2021, and have included those born in 2009. However, as all paediatric vaccination slots in December 2021 have now been taken up, those born in 2009 would have crossed their 12th birthday, and therefore no longer eligible to book a paediatric vaccination slot on the NAS.

  2. They must have crossed their 12th birthday on the day of their first vaccination appointment.
