News Press Releases

525 participants from 30 pre-university institutions1 have come together for this year’s Pre-University Seminar to engage in dialogues on issues of national concern, especially in the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent challenges and opportunities which would emerge. Held virtually, the seminar will begin on 1 June and conclude on 4 June.

2. Second Minister for Education Dr Maliki Osman was the Guest-of-Honour for the Opening Ceremony today, where he gave an opening address, engaged with participants in discussions, and took part in a Question & Answer session. Minister for Education Mr Chan Chun Sing will grace the Closing Ceremony on 4 June.

3. Themed 'STRONGER', this year’s seminar invites participants to reflect on our priorities as a community and redefine the paths we can take individually and collectively, against the backdrop of the pandemic. Participants will discuss how Singapore can emerge stronger as one, with a place for all Singaporeans, and how they can become better versions of themselves for Singapore. The collective vision they co-create will help to inspire a shared future beyond the pandemic. Participants will work in teams to delve into one of three sub-themes – Tougher; Bolder; Kinder – to develop an understanding of the complexity of issues.

4. The seminar includes virtual Learning Journeys linked to the seminar’s areas of focus, and provides participants with opportunities to speak with experts from different fields. The seminar will culminate in a presentation of participants’ ideas for a stronger Singapore in a post-pandemic world.
