News Press Releases

The Tamil Language Learning and Promotion Committee (TLLPC) is proud to commemorate its 15th anniversary this year. To celebrate this important milestone, the TLLPC has developed a commemorative coffee table book in both print and digital versions to capture the journey of promoting Tamil Language (TL) together with various community partners and organisations.

2. Minister for Communications and Information, and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, Mr S. Iswaran, who was also the former Chairman of TLLPC (2006 – 2016), launched the book titled Naavil Thamizh Naalum Thamizh, which translates to 'Speak Tamil! Speak it Everyday!' on Friday, 16 April 2021 at the Umar Pulavar Tamil Language Centre.

3. The commemorative book, which includes a foreword penned by Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, highlights TLLPC's contributions and role in the promotion of the language over the years, in collaboration with its partners and Tamil organisations such as the Tamil Language Council, Singapore Tamil Teachers' Union, Tamil Murasu and the Umar Pulavar Tamil Language Centre.

4. The book provides an insight into the good work of the stakeholders such as youths, educators and the community, through interviews with various community leaders and stakeholders, such as Mr Anbarasu Rajendran, Chief Executive Officer, SINDA, Mr Manogaran Suppiah, Chairman of the Tamil Language Council, and Mr V. Pandiyan, President of the Tamils Representative Council.

5. TLLPC hopes that through these stories, stakeholders and partners will be motivated to continue their good work of promoting TL among students and within the community, and inspire them to deepen their interest in the language and use it actively in their daily lives. It also details TLLPC's future plans.

6. The print version of the Book will be distributed to all pre-schools, primary and secondary schools, Junior Colleges/Millennia Institute and Polytechnics that offer TL by end-June 2021. For more information on the commemorative coffee table book, please visit the TLLPC website at www.tllpc.sg.
