News Press Releases

The Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL) has launched a publication on the use of creative and effective teaching aids to teach Chinese Language (CL). Compiled from the entries of finalists in the Pre-school Chinese Language Storytelling Aids Competition from 2018 to 2020, the publication aims to inspire our pre-school teachers on the approaches they can use to engage and excite our pre-schoolers to learn the language. Two copies of the publication will be distributed to all pre-school Anchor Operators and Partner Operators by May 2021.

2. Minister of State for Education and Chairperson of the CPCLL, Ms Sun Xueling, launched the publication as Guest-of-Honour at a virtual event on 13 March 2021. Titled《创意教具说故事》, the publication explains the different types of storytelling aids, ways of using them, and provides examples of the materials that can be used to create these teaching aids (e.g. recycled materials). These aids help to make the storytelling process more lively, interesting and interactive.

3. From now to 9 April 2021, in-service pre-school CL teachers are also invited to participate in the 2021 edition of the Pre-school Chinese Language Storytelling Aids Competition. They may register and submit their entries individually or as a group (up to a maximum of three members). Shortlisted finalists will be required to demonstrate the use of their teaching aids through storytelling sessions online, followed by an interview session with the judges. A total of ten prizes will be awarded.

4. Organised by the CPCLL and held annually since 2018, the competition aims to enhance the professional development of pre-school CL teachers and inspire them to hone their skills and strategies in storytelling. Through creative storytelling, pre-school CL teachers can better engage pre-school children and inculcate in them an interest in learning the language.
