News Press Releases

1. 128 students will receive the 2018 Singapore-Industry Scholarship (SgIS)1 on 2 August at an award ceremony with Second Minister for Education and Finance, Ms Indranee Rajah as guest-of-honour.

2. SgIS is a multi-industry undergraduate scholarship which aims to groom future Singaporean industry leaders in strategic sectors that are critical for Singapore’s development. With the inclusion of 9 new organisations, the total number of sponsoring organisations2 participating in SgIS has risen to 67. These leading organisations come from 16 key growth sectors, including aviation, electronics, healthcare, info-communications media, lifestyle products and services, and social services.

3. Since 2012, SgIS has awarded a total of 702 scholarships. All SgIS scholars will be given various industry-relevant and personal development opportunities to help them develop and grow. These opportunities are part of the SgIS Scholars’ Development and Engagement Programme. They include internships conducted by their Sponsoring Organisations to enable the scholars to gain industry knowledge while studying in university; forums with thought leaders from the public and private sectors to expose the scholars to broader issues in key industries and Singapore; and social activities for scholars to hone their soft skills and contribute back to the SgIS community and the wider society.

4. With a whole host of opportunities for aspiring local talent and a strong focus on continuous learning, the SgIS is on track to groom a sustainable pipeline of industry leaders who can lead Singapore in her various key growth sectors for the long term.
