“与声剧来”中文广播剧创作比赛及工作坊颁奖典礼 Students’ Creativity Shine through “Script It Right” Chinese Radio Drama Script Writing Competition

1. This year, 28 students from nine schools were recognised for their creativity and proficiency in script writing during the “Script it Right” Chinese Radio Drama Script Writing Competition Awards Ceremony on 21 June. Ms Low Yen Ling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education, and Chairperson of the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL), gave out the prizes as the Guest-of-Honour.

2. The competition aims to boost the learning of Chinese in a fun and interactive way, and stimulate students’ interest in the language. The best seven scripts and five commendation scripts were chosen based on their content, creativity, and use of language (list of winners are in the Annex).

3. The recipients of the best seven scripts have participated in the production of their radio drama, and attended a sequel-writing workshop based on their scripts. The seven radio dramas were broadcasted on Chinese radio station, UFM100.3 from April to May, while the four best sequels will be broadcast from July to August.

4. More than 550 students from 40 secondary schools, junior colleges, and polytechnics across all levels submitted a total of 234 entries. This is the highest number of entries submitted over the past five years. In addition, about 1,000 students benefited from a series of eight workshops as they honed their script writing skills, and about 100 teachers learnt radio drama skills to spark their students’ interest in learning Chinese in an engaging way, such as script writing and voice acting.
