Minister Ong Ye Kung in Hong Kong and Shenzhen from 22-27 April 2018

Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) Mr Ong Ye Kung has wrapped up his visit to Hong Kong.

2. Over two days, Mr Ong met with Hong Kong leaders – Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Matthew Cheung; Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas Yang; and Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Patrick Nip. Common themes of discussion were innovation and technology, developments in the Greater Bay Area, and facilitating collaboration and people exchanges across Guangdong, Hong Kong and Singapore. Mr Ong also met Secretary for Justice, Ms Teresa Cheng and discussed developments in the Hong Kong legal system.

3. On the education front, Mr Ong met with Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, and visited the Vocational Training Council – Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education and the University of Hong Kong. They exchanged views on education developments in Hong Kong, language education, vocational education and preparing the young for the future workforce. He rounded the engagements off with a visit to the Singapore International School today, where he had a dialogue with students and observed a class in session.

4. On 23 April evening, Mr Ong delivered a speech on Singapore’s external and domestic relations to business and community leaders at the Singapore Chamber of Commerce (Hong Kong), which was followed by a dialogue. The following evening, Mr Ong engaged with around 200 overseas Singaporeans based in Hong Kong.

5. Mr Ong left for Shenzhen this afternoon, where he will visit Shenzhen University and various tech companies.
