Question
To ask the Minister for Education (a) whether the Ministry will consider institutionalising regular co-curricular activities (CCA) twinning between schools to enable sustained mixing between students of different academic and socio-economic profiles beyond ad-hoc efforts; (b) whether such CCA twinning between schools has been piloted in the past five years; and (c) what are the outcomes of such pilots.
Response
- Between 2019 to 2024, 18 CCA partnerships have been initiated by schools. All of these partnerships are still ongoing. While such partnerships incur higher costs and impose some inconveniences such as increased travel time, students who participate in such multi-school CCAs reported positive experiences and developed CCA-specific skills. They also forge friendships with peers from other schools.
- Such CCA partnerships between schools are more sustainable when schools identify suitable partners based on their needs and profiles, and the partner schools find ways to overcome the coordination challenges involved. MOE will continue to support schools which are keen to offer multi-school CCAs, along with other ways to promote social mixing between students of different profiles.
