Name and Constituency of Member of Parliament

Ms Lee Hui Ying, Nee Soon GRC

Question

To ask the Minister for Education whether there are plans to expand more animal welfare and anti-cruelty themes and modules in the education syllabus by including them as part of the voluntary learning modules on the Student Learning Space or incorporating them into exam and practice questions in the academic curriculum.

Response

1. The topics of animal welfare and the prevention of animal cruelty are covered in subjects such as Character and Citizenship Education (CCE), Social Studies (Primary), and Science. The contexts used to discuss such issues are regularly refreshed to include contemporary examples. These lessons are available in the Student Learning Space for students to revisit on their own after learning it in class. We will continue to review this as part of our curriculum review and refresh.
