Question
To ask the Minister for Education whether schools will (i) standardise dismissal-safety procedures including same-day exception alerts to parents via Parents Gateway when a primary pupil's after-school movement deviates from normal arrangement and (ii) expand supervised safe spaces for pupils awaiting caregivers.
Response
1. All primary schools prioritise student safety in their dismissal procedures. This includes communicating standard dismissal timings with parents and caregivers and ensuring adequate safe places for children who are waiting for pick up. Schools also give advance notice to parents via Parents Gateway if there is any change to school dismissal timing. Students who need to leave school before the official dismissal time will need the school's permission, and their parents will also be informed.
2. Parents should inform the school or their child's Form Teacher if they are unable to pick up their child as scheduled. Students who are not picked up will remain under supervised care until the revised pick-up arrangements are confirmed.
