Name and Constituency of Member of Parliament

Mr Patrick Tay Teck Guan, Pioneer

Question

To ask the Minister for Education whether the Ministry and SkillsFuture Singapore will consider embarking on a detailed study together with tripartite partners and academia on (i) the efficacy of current Continuing Education and Training (CET) Schemes in supporting placement, progression and upward social mobility and (ii) the future skills and CET required in the next 3-5 years across the new and growth sectors/industries.

Response

1. MOE and SSG collaborate with many stakeholders to study the impact of the SkillsFuture movement and initiatives.

2. For example, SSG has set up the Workforce Development Applied Research Fund (WDARF) to encourage inter-disciplinary research in the area of workforce development and lifelong learning, and to evaluate the impact of Continuing Education Training (CET) and lifelong learning policies and programmes. For future skills, SSG has also been undertaking various studies to better understand the needs of new growth areas, so that we can design more effective CET programmes.

3. SSG works closely with many partners in such research. We will be happy to commission more detailed studies together with unions and employers in the suggested areas.
