As announced at Budget 2018, MOE will be enhancing the following financial assistance schemes:
a. MOE Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) – raising the income eligibility criteria to cover more families, and raising the annual bursary quantum for pre-university students on the MOE FAS, from $750 to $900;
b. MOE Independent School Bursary (ISB) – raising the income eligibility criteria; and
c. School Meals Programme (SMP) – covering more meals for MOE FAS students at the secondary level.
More details will be provided during the Committee of Supply debates in 2018.
The Ministry of Education provides financial assistance to needy Singapore Citizen students in Government, Government-aided schools and Institute of Higher Learning so that all Singaporeans, regardless of their financial background, can benefit from the best opportunities in education. It also provides subsidy for school fees to Singapore Citizen students from lower and middle income families in Independent Schools, except Singapore Sports School, Northlight School, Assumption Pathway School, Crest Secondary School, Spectra Secondary School and School Of The Arts which have their own financial assistance schemes.
