The Contract and Flexi-Adjunct Teaching Schemes allow former teachers to re-join MOE on an adjunct basis to supplement the main teaching workforce. Adjunct teachers are deployed to our schools for teaching duties or a mix of teaching and CCA duties to meet schools’ needs.

Contract Adjunct Teaching Scheme


Applicants must be former MOE teachers.


Can be assigned pure teaching or a mix of both teaching and CCA duties, depending on the needs of the school. Duties of the contract adjunct teacher have to be agreed upon between the school and the teacher.

Contract duration

Contract duration is between 1 to 1.5 years. Subsequent contracts are renewed on a yearly basis, subject to officer’s good performance and organisational requirements.


Can be assigned full or partial, workload, depending on the needs of the school. Partial workload arrangement has to be agreed upon between the school and teacher before the commencement of duty. Contract adjunct teachers on partial workload terms will have pro-rated remuneration and benefits.

Commitment Incentive

Eligible for Commitment Incentive, subject to meeting minimum performance expectations.


Standard Increment upon contract renewal.

Service Benefits

Full service benefits (e.g. medical reimbursement, dental reimbursement) except professional development opportunities.

Application Procedure

  • Applicants should apply directly to the school they wish to teach at. The application form can be downloaded here (143kb xls).
  • Application processing time is typically about 8 to 10 weeks from the date your application is forwarded by the school to MOE. There may be a small number of cases which require a longer processing time; applicants will be informed as necessary.
  • MOE is the formal approving authority for contract adjunct teachers.

Flexi-Adjunct Teaching Scheme


Applicants must have a professional teaching qualification (such as the Postgraduate Diploma in Education or the Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education) and be registered as flexi-adjunct teachers.


Can be assigned pure teaching or a mix of both teaching and CCA duties, depending on the needs of the school. Duties of the flexi-adjunct teacher have to be agreed upon between the school and the teacher.

Contract duration

Varies from 1 day to 10 weeks per appointment, depending on the requirements of the school.

Committed Workload

Up to 27.5 hours per week

Commitment Incentive

Eligible for Commitment Incentive (CI) if contract duration is 4 weeks or more, subject to teacher serving the entire contract duration and fulfilling the total committed hours. CI will be paid in the next payroll cycle following the end of the committed period.

In-service Education Officers currently on no-pay leave who are registered as FAJT are not eligible for CI.

Payment Policy

Wages are paid fortnightly. Hourly rated; up to 60 hours per fortnight (i.e. an average of 6 hours per day).

Not paid on Sundays and scheduled school holidays. Paid for a public holiday that falls within his/her appointment period.

Leave Benefits

Eligible for leave benefits if cumulative length of service is 90 days or more in the same school. Benefits are pro-rated based on contract duration and workload (where applicable). Exception is for shared parental leave (SPL), where individuals will be eligible for SPL as long as (i) the spouse is eligible for maternity leave or adoption leave and, (ii) has declared that she wishes to share the leave with him.

Contracts which are (i) 14 calendar days or more, (ii) renewed within 30 calendar days of the previous contract, and (iii) in the same school, are considered continuous service. The cumulative service duration will be the sum of all the continuous contracts.

Application Procedure

  • Applicants are to register as relief teachers online via the Relief Employment Management System (REMS) portal. You will require a valid email account to create a user account to access the system.

  • If your application is successful, your name will be included in the registry of successful applicants. Schools will contact you directly if they require your services or you may call the schools to enquire about vacancies. Successful registration in REMS does not guarantee employment in schools.

  • Please note that inactive applicants (i.e. applicants who do not have at least one assignment in one year) will be deregistered.

  • Processing time may take up to 4 weeks. Due to the volume of applications, some applications may require a longer processing time.
