Bicultural Studies Programme Scholarship (Sec 3 Intake)

The Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP) Scholarship is offered by the Ministry of Education to encourage outstanding students, who have the interest and capacity to engage China’s culture and contemporary society, to pursue Chinese Language under the BSP. BSP Scholarship (Sec 3 Intake) is available at the following centres:

Eligibility

Candidates should:

  • Be Singapore Citizens;
  • Have been successfully admitted to BSP in one of the BSP centres;
  • Be among the top 10% of their PSLE cohort;
  • Have achieved a grade of ‘A*’ in Chinese Language or ‘Merit’ in Higher Chinese Language; and
  • Have achieved a grade of ‘A’ in English Language.

Selection of Award

Applications will open in September. BSP students who have met the eligibility criteria of BSP Scholarship and are nominated by their schools will be invited for the selection interview. Please approach the respective schools for more information.

The scholarship selection interviews for shortlisted candidates will be conducted in November/December. Applicants will receive their interview call letters through their respective schools in mid-November.

Results of the scholarship selection will be announced in January. Please note that only successful candidates will be notified.

Terms and Conditions

The scholarship provides an allowance of $1,000 per annum. It also covers school fees based on Singapore Citizens’ rates, subject to an annual cap of $2,400. It is tenable for 4 years, subject to satisfactory progress at the end of each year and good conduct. Successful applicants are not required to enter into a bond to serve the Singapore Government.

Successful applicants must offer Higher Chinese & Chinese Electives (as required by the school) at the Secondary level, and H2 China Studies (Chinese) at the Pre-University Level. There will not be any restriction on the choice of the remaining subjects. Applicants, however, are encouraged to take up H1/H2 Economics/Geography/History/Literature.

Successful applicants are also required to participate in the following activities organised by the Ministry of Education and your school:

  • BSP symposium;
  • BSP Camp;
  • Overseas Study cum Immersion Programme.
