WHAT IS THE POLYTECHNIC EARLY ADMISSIONS EXERCISE (POLY EAE)?
Poly EAE is an aptitude-based admissions exercise that allows students to apply for and receive conditional offers for admission to polytechnics prior to receiving their final grades. It allows the polytechnics greater flexibility to select and admit students based on their aptitudes and interests, apart from academic grades, thus allowing a wider range of talents to be recognised.
Poly EAE is open to graduating O-Level students and final-year Nitec and Higher Nitec students from the Institute of Technical Education.
All five polytechnics participate in Poly EAE:
- Nanyang Polytechnic
- Ngee Ann Polytechnic
- Republic Polytechnic
- Singapore Polytechnic
- Temasek Polytechnic
WHEN WILL POLY EAE BEGIN?
Poly EAE application timelines for admission to the AY2020 polytechnic intake are as follows:
- O-level students: 27 June 2019 to 3 July 2019
- ITE students: 6 June 2019 to 12 June 2019
WHAT IS THE SELECTION CRITERIA FOR POLY EAE?
Each polytechnic course has its own selection criteria. In considering your application, the polytechnics will take into account your aptitudes for and interests in the specific courses that you are applying for. As part of the selection process, applicants may need to submit portfolios and undergo interviews and aptitude tests. Students with exceptional talents in areas such as leadership, community service, sports and arts may also be considered through Poly EAE.
Successful applicants under the Poly EAE will be given conditional offers before taking their GCE O-Level examination, or before their final Grade Point Average (GPA) for Nitec or Higher NItec are released. For the conditional offer to be confirmed, one must meet the baseline criteria for polytechnic admission, as well as other minimum entry requirements specific to the course that one has applied for. This is to ensure that students admitted through Poly EAE will be able to cope with the rigour of a polytechnic education.
The conditional offer for a place in the polytechnic through Poly EAE will be automatically confirmed upon release of the GCE O-Level results or Nitec or Higher Nitec GPA, if the student has met the stipulated requirements. Students with confirmed Poly EAE offers will not be eligible to take part in the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE), Joint Polytechnic Admissions Exercise (JPAE), or other polytechnic admissions exercises. Students are expected to honour the commitment to their choice of polytechnic and the course under the EAE.
THE JUNIOR COLLEGE ROUTE
If you are interested in the JC pathway and wish to gain direct admission to a JC, you can participate in the Direct School Admissions – Junior College (DSA-JC) Exercise, which is conducted during the same period as Poly or ITE EAE.
Please visit the DSA-JC Exercise website for more information on the DSA-JC Exercise.
Note: While you can participate in the DSA-JC Exercise, Poly EAE and ITE EAE, you may not accept offers for both DSA-JC and EAE. Students who accept both EAE and DSA-JC offers will be disqualified from both exercises, unless they cancel one of the offers before the end of the Acceptance Stage.
