WHAT IS FORWARD SINGAPORE?

Forward Singapore is an opportunity for all of us to come together, examine our values and aspirations, and build consensus for our future. What do we, as a people, want to see? What would we like to achieve together? What should we aim to do? What are we each willing to contribute to get there?

WHY ARE WE TALKING NOW?

We are at the crossroads of political, economic, social and environmental changes. The global turbulence caused by these changes, if left unaddressed, can threaten to break apart our society. Yet, today's technological advances and digitalisation also afford us great opportunities.

Against this backdrop, it is timely for us to refresh our social compact and set out how Singaporeans can work with each other, to shape the next phase of nation-building together.

WHAT SHOULD WE CONSIDER?

Here are some thoughts we can begin with:

  • How might we facilitate greater opportunities for Singaporeans, and ensure that no one is left behind?
  • How might we provide better assurances to Singaporeans in a volatile world?
  • How might we steward our shared resources to meet today's needs and tomorrow's challenges?
  • How might we foster a greater sense of shared ownership and responsibility across society?

  • HOW WILL WE DO THIS?

We will consider all ideas. We will bring together Singaporeans with different views and from different backgrounds to better understand one another. Through this, we hope to come to an agreement on how best we can move ahead.

WHAT WE BELIEVE SINGAPORE CAN BE:

  • A society where opportunities are open to all, no matter where they start off, and where everyone can chart their own path to live a fulfilling, dignified life.
  • Where all are assured of access to basic needs like healthcare and housing, and can age with dignity.
  • Where we can build the best home, not just for ourselves but for generations of Singaporeans yet unborn.
  • And where every Singaporean contributes their fair share to realise this shared vision, with those with more contributing more to uplift those with less.
