Medtronic Singapore Operations (MSO) was set up in Changi South in 2009 as the first cardiac device manufacturing facility for Medtronic in Asia. This $80 million state-of-the-art facility is one of the most advanced medical device manufacturing sites and the first manufacturing facility of its kind in Asia Pacific to make Implantable Cardiac Leads, Cardiac Pacemakers and Cardiac Monitors.

Medtronic was one of the first international medical technology firms to set up operations in Singapore, creating jobs for Singaporeans and providing an opportunity for Singapore to play a key role in the manufacturing of life-saving products that impact patients all over the world. Singapore’s strong intellectual property laws, global connectivity and skilled workforce were among the factors that made it a choice location for the high-quality manufacturing of Medtronic’s products.

After an 18-month ramp-up with an initial team of just 50 employees, MSO shipped its first production units of IPG heart pacemakers (implantable pulse generator) on February 2011 across the globe. Today, MSO has grown to a team of more than 580 employees with state-of-the-art production lines serving critical life-sustaining implantable products across the globe aligned with Medtronic’s mission to alleviate pain, restore health and extend life.

Serving millions of patients across the globe today, MSO has over last 10 years successfully managed 10 manufacturing product transfers. Its outstanding performance and strong work ethic have gained recognition by the global Medtronic network naming it the Best Cardiovascular Plant of the Year two years in a row and the Global Quality Award and the most recent Global Star of Excellence Award Winner – Manufacturing Site Quality.

They offer a 2-year Engineering Rotation Program – an exclusive program to provide learning opportunities for new employees to gain exposure and further opportunities / broadening horizons for personnel in Engineering discipline. The Engineering Rotation Program is a full-time, salary, professional-level leadership training experience. Participants will have exposure to rotate through two / three functions like Engineering, Project Management Office and Quality to gain specific job and industry knowledge. All fresh graduates who are hired into Engineering or Quality or Project Management functions will be placed in this program.

At Medtronic, career progression requires a blend of experiences, exposures and education. Experiences come from learn by doing – delivering on annual goals, stretch assignments, volunteering for projects, taking on new challenges / project assignments in your current role, co-leading enterprise wide programs, filling in for your manager / supervisor when he /she is on vacation. Exposure means learn from others through coaching (formal and peer), mentoring, join the Employee Resource Group, shadowing a leader in a different function and to get feedback from your manager.
