News Press Releases

1.Culture and heritage came alive for about 480 students from 12 schools at this year’s Cultural Heritage Walk, with activities held at various local clan, cultural and heritage sites in Chinatown. Organised by the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL) and Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA), the number of students who took part this year was more than double last year’s inaugural event, which saw just 200 young participants from 6 schools.

2. The programme aims to encourage students to explore the rich heritage and cultural diversity in the vicinity of Bukit Pasoh and Chinatown through experiential learning. This will enable students to better appreciate Singapore’s rich and distinctive culture and identity, premised on multiculturalism. To give our students more exposure and enrich their experiences, the number of walking routes also expanded from one last year to three this year, with close to 100 volunteers from secondary schools, universities and polytechnics acting as guides.

3. To ensure that the walk remains truly experiential and engaging, each route comprised four landmarks of cultural significance, with varied interactive activities organised by 13 cultural and religious organisations. Some of the activities include making Hakka snacks at the Singapore Eng Teng Association, taking part in Wushu and Lion Dance demonstrations at Singapore Chin Woo Athletic Association, as well as touring the Masjid Jamae Mosque and the Sri Layan Sithi Vinayagar Temple.
