1. The Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Themed YOUTHforia!, SYF 2016 will be a meaningful and vibrant celebration of both the SYF’s proud 50-year heritage and the vitality of our youths creating the future. SYF 2016 will showcase the varied talents of our youths today across the different performing arts and the uniformed groups. It is an important platform for schools to develop their students through and in the arts.

2. Flagship events from March to July include the Arts Presentation, Art Exhibition and SYF Celebrations.

SYF Arts Presentation – 29 March to 27 April

3. The month-long SYF 2016 Arts Presentation will feature over 700 presentations by almost 25,000 students from various performing arts Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) in primary schools, secondary schools, junior colleges and Millennia Institute. Participating schools will be conferred Certificates of Distinction, Accomplishment or Commendation by the adjudicators.

4. Starting this year, the categories of performing arts have been diversified to include mixed and sectional ensembles. For example, the Band Arts Presentation now includes percussion ensemble, showcasing a combination of instruments from the percussion section of the concert band.

5. This year, several Arts Presentations will begin in the afternoon and extend into the evening, to encourage greater support from parents and the public. Admission is free.

SYF Art Exhibition – 1 to 10 July

6. The SYF 2016 Art Exhibition invites student artists from secondary schools, junior colleges and Millennia Institute to interpret the theme “Artist and Space” in personal and distinct ways. Students are encouraged to explore the concept of space creatively, not just from a physical perspective but also from metaphorical or socio-cultural perspectives and represent them through art.

7. All participating entries will be featured online and in a printed catalogue while a team of curators comprising educators from art institutions and industry will select works from the participating entries to be showcased at an on-site exhibition.
