We refer to the letter by Mr Simon Khoo Kim San (“Vital life-saver for all schools”, ST Forum My Point, 21/1, pA24).

2We thank Mr Khoo for his feedback. The safety of our students, teachers and all in the school, is important to us. We are in the process of equipping all Government and Government-aided schools with automated external defibrillators (AEDs). This will be completed by April 2015 and familiarisation sessions will also be organised for school staff on the use of these devices.

Vital life-saver for all schools (Simon Khoo Kim San, ST Forum, 21/1, pA24)

I RECENTLY started work at a government primary school and was surprised to learn that it does not have an automated external defibrillator (AED).

The AED is a device that can deliver electrical energy to “jump-start” the heart in the event of cardiac arrest. There is adequate research to indicate the major benefit that early defibrillation has on survival. This is why AEDs are being made available in a growing number of public places.

I hope all our schools can have easy access to this life-saving device.
